As the temperatures rise during recent sweltering heat waves, Vriendschap Village residents took shelter indoors to enjoy the cool arctic blast of the air conditioning. We took advantage of the opportunity and decided it was the perfect occasion to celebrate Christmas in July! Residents and associates alike donned their festive apparel to get in the spirit of this year’s theme, which drew homage to the holiday classic “It’s a Wonderful Life.”
Partygoers indulged in delicious array of Christmas sugar cookies supplied by Vander Ploeg Bakery, along with homemade fudge and peanut clusters created by our very own chefs here at Vriendschap! We also enjoyed a variety of cocktails and “mocktails” with coveted recipes shared by several of our directors.
As part of the celebration, we welcomed a special guest speaker to join us for the event. Phil de Boef spoke about how wonderful life can be, and how some people may relate to the storyline of the movie even if their circumstances differ from the plot. Phil was a joy to listen to and we look forward to having him return to share his words of wisdom again in the future.
This special event not only gave as an opportunity to honor a timeless classic while indulging in sweet treats, but also provided a chance to celebrate the simple things in life while enjoying the gift of friendship. As George Bailey remarkably shared in the film, “If you want to feel rich, just count all the gifts you have that money can’t buy.” We can all agree that the memories shared in the company of friends is indeed priceless!
