Vriendschap Village residents from The Gardens traveled on the bus on a warmer day to Red Rock Lake to look for eagles. We saw a couple of eagles in the distance but they unfortunately didn’t stop to pose for pictures. We had a good time anyway.

The Pella Christian High School Band and Vocal Department held their Christmas Concert last night. What a wonderful performance and our residents really enjoyed it.

We definitely got into the fall season this week with a trip to Pierce’s Pumpkin patch. The residents picked out pumpkins and other fall decorations and we picked out about a half a dozen pumpkins to decorate the entrance of the building with.

Residents traveled to Vintage Hills in Indianola to challenge their residents to a Wii Bowling Tournament this week.
Several Vriendschap Village residents traveled to Pella Christian High School where the Iowa Southern Gospel Music Concerts hosted the Jim Brady Trio for a special performance.
Residents traveled to Heartland Reformed Church in Pella to hear gospel music from three area quartets: Heading Home, Living Water and Sharon Bethel Quartet.
We had a full bus of residents as we headed to the Neil Smith Nature Center in Prairie City. We had a great time learning in the nature center and we were able to see a bison on the plain. We then head to Goldies for some ice cream ……yum!
The residents enjoyed a wonderful performance of Wizard of Oz by the Union Street Players. We all loved it!

The Red Rock Threshers Tractor Ride came through Pella last week and residents enjoyed sitting out and seeing all the different styles and sizes of tractors. Thank you to the organizers for including us!
Residents and staff climbed on the bus and headed to Red Rock Lake this weekend for the annual balloonfest. There was a great crowd on Friday night along with great music and the wind was just right to launch!
We traveled to Tracy, Iowa to have lunch at The Boondocks. Good burgers, good garbage salads and great conversation.

Vriendschap Village residents and staff attended the Pella Heartland Gospel Sing at Pella Christian High School on Saturday. Singers from area churches performed and everyone got a chance to sing hymns. It was a great event.
Residents and staff traveled downtown for Thursday evenings in Pella. The theme for the evening was “Bark in the Park.” Area residents brought their favorite pets and we enjoyed seeing all of them. We also stayed to hear the performance of the Pella Community Band.
Thursdays and Pella started last night and Vriendschap Village residents traveled downtown to enjoy the good food, entertainment and fun with the Pella Community. Thursdays and Pella will run every Thursday night in June and July and we plan on being there!
Residents and staff traveled to Prairie City to Goldie’s for lunch items. With the pork tenderloin, salad, chili dogs, breaded cauliflower, cheese balls and ice cream, everything was delicious!
Residents and staff traveled to Eldon, Iowa to visit the American Gothic House and Museum. There they learned about Grant Wood, the artist and more about the famous painting. The also bought items from the gift shop to remember the trip by. It was a great trip and wonderful memories were made.
Residents and staff traveled for an extended lunch outing to Cantril, Iowa to buy special items from the Dutchman’s Store and enjoy a special lunch provided by Robin Braun, Vriendschap Village’s Chef. Everyone enjoyed a very delightful outing and lunch!

Our residents enjoyed the wonderful weather for this year’s Tulip Time. We attended three of the six parades and got to have plenty of goodies and see many friends in the community.

Vriendschap Village residents participated in the first volunteer day. Residents went out into the Pella Community and helped out several not-for-profit organizations. This included reading to elementary school children and helping organize donations to a local thrift store. Thanks to all the volunteers hard work and we look forward to next month’s volunteer day.

Central Collage Music Department (College Community Chorus & Chamber Singer and Collage Community Orchestra) presented Mozart’s Requiem at Douwstra Auditorium on Central Campus and Vriendschap Village residents and staff were honored to attend. Great musicians performed such a beautiful concert – so much talent on display. Thank you for all who contributed for such a great concert.

Vriendschap Village residents traveled to Jersey Freeze in Monroe, Iowa before they closed for the season. The ice cream and conversation was great!
Several of our residents attended the SWE Variety Show in the Upper Chapel at Central College in Pella. SWE members and favorite professors performed different acts throughout the show. The acts ranged from instrumental ensembles, singing, trivia and dancing. Several residents participated in learning a new dance from one of the acts.

We had a great time visiting the Pella Police Department and learning how these local heroes protect us and keep our community safe. Thanks to Chief of Police Robert Bokinsky and all the officers for their hospitality and a special thanks to Marcia Slycord who lead the tour and answered all of our questions.

On October 15th, we went on a Road Trip around Pella with our Memory Care residents. They enjoyed seeing former resident’s houses and the cool breeze and the fall weather. Following our outing, we came back to the Village and had a picnic lunch.
On September 30th, Vrienschap Village residents rode in the new van to the Frisian Farm. It was very exciting to hear about the process of making cheese.
